What does it consist of?

The Government is promoting a series of actions to improve the conditions of the small-scale artisanal fishing industry in the ports of Alcúdia, Cala Bona, Cala Figuera, Portocolom and Sóller. The interventions will modernise infrastructure, guarantee the conservation of catches and promote the sustainability of an activity with strong local roots.

The project

The small-scale artisanal fishing industry in Mallorca has for years been suffering from structural problems linked to the lack of adequate infrastructure for the storage, conservation and handling of catches. In response to these shortcomings, several actions have been planned in five ports with significant fishing activity: Alcúdia, Cala Bona, Cala Figuera, Portocolom and Sóller.

Planned measures include the installation of new cold stores, the renovation of warehouses and the purchase of equipment to improve traceability and hygiene in fish handling. In addition, the improvement of ice loading points and provisioning areas is expected to facilitate the daily tasks of the vessels.

The interventions are designed with energy efficiency and durability criteria, adapting to the real needs of the industry and prioritising practical solutions. Some guilds will also have new spaces for meetings and training, thereby strengthening the social fabric of this traditional activity.

These improvements aim to strengthen the economic viability of small-scale fisheries in a context of heavy tourist pressure and changing consumer habits. Better integration of the industry into the local food value chain, from the port to the end consumer, is also pursued.
