Mallorca Island Council takes over the Ses Porqueres building to make it a lodge within the island's dry-stone network
What does it consist of?
Galatzó, a public estate in Calvià, has been home to a new mountain lodge for a few years now, following the complete refurbishment of the Ses Porqueres building. The initiative, promoted by Mallorca Island Council and funded through sustainable tourism tax, protects an iconic building while providing a space for hikers and cultural activities.

The project
Ses Porqueres lodge is part of Mallorca Island Council's strategy to strengthen the Ruta de Pedra en Sec, a network of paths and lodges that highlight the island's rural heritage. The old livestock building, practically in ruins, has been renovated to provide accommodation for hikers and space for cultural purposes.
The works have respected traditional dry-stone techniques, while also providing the building with the necessary facilities for its new purpose. The lodge has 52 beds in 12 rooms, a kitchen, dining rooms, a house for the caretakers and a function room for educational and cultural activities.
The project was drawn up by the technical services of Calvià Town Council, owner of the Galatzó estate since 2006, and included complete refurbishment: demolition, paving, roofing, installations and finishing touches. This action has served to restore a unique space for sustainable hiking in Mallorca.
The funding, with a total budget of €1.4 million sourced entirely from sustainable tourism tax, has covered the full cost of the project, implemented between 2017 and 2018. This is a clear example of how these funds contribute to protecting the islands’ nature and culture.
