What does it consist of?
An extensive educational programme modernises vocational training in the Balearic Islands to strengthen qualifications in strategic sectors such as tourism and the hotel and catering industry. Actions include teacher training, promoting dual vocational training programmes, improving infrastructures and mastering foreign languages.

The project
The transformation of the tourism model in the Balearic Islands requires a real improvement in the qualifications of the people working in the sector. With this objective, the Government has launched a comprehensive action plan for Vocational Education and Training (VET), focused on adapting education to the needs of the local productive sector and promoting employability.
The programme is structured around two main lines of action: improving the educational offer and upgrading training facilities. Key measures include the upskilling of teaching staff, summer language immersion programmes, the promotion of dual VET through agreements with chambers of commerce, and the strengthening of partnerships with companies, such as the agreement signed with Air Europa to train aircraft maintenance technicians.
In terms of infrastructure, the plan includes the construction of a new centre in Ciutadella and the expansion of IES Colom Casasnoves in Sóller. It also incorporates a targeted plan to modernise equipment in training programmes most closely linked to the tourism sector. The total planned investment amounts to €11.8 million between 2024 and 2027.
According to the Directorate General for Vocational Education and Training, this is “a necessary step to improve job quality and reduce seasonality.” By strengthening the link between education and business, the plan aims to train qualified professionals who can actively contribute to a more professional and sustainable tourism model in the archipelago.
