The project

With the aim of responding to growing demand in the recreational boating industry, the Department of Economic Planning and Employment has led the launch of a pioneering training centre in the Balearic Islands. Located at the Son Castelló industrial estate, the new centre is geared towards training in boat maintenance and repair, an area in high demand with virtually no prior infrastructure in the archipelago.

This space has been designed to offer vocational training for employment in the industry, for both unemployed people and active workers seeking to improve their skills or retrain professionally. The programme includes more than 40 training courses per year, with the capacity to train more than 400 people per year in a range of technical fields.

The project, executed in two phases, has seen the adaptation of the facilities to house classrooms, workshops and technical spaces, as well as the acquisition of equipment and furniture required to carry out the courses. Training courses are available in a wide range of areas: structural repair, treatment of materials such as fibre and paint, working with engines, electricity, electronics, rigging and areas related to the merchant navy.

With a total investment of almost €3 million from sustainable tourism tax funds, this centre is establishing itself as a leading hub for training in an industry marked by innovation, sustainability and high job demand across the islands.
