The project

The Balearic Islands are leaders in the marine industry, especially in the maintenance and repair of recreational boats. However, the lack of specialised training meant job posts, until now, were primarily being filled with professionals from elsewhere. This situation means fewer job and development opportunities for local workers.

The new vocational school will offer training in northern Mallorca, with courses tied to the professional category of ‘transport and vehicle maintenance’. The facility will respond to the needs of the industry and make it more competitive, while helping to create stable skilled jobs for the islands’ population.

The school will offer professional qualifications, courses by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), official intermediate and advanced vocational training courses, basic training and Merchant Navy qualifications in coordination with the boating and fishing comprehensive vocational school (CIFP Náuticopesquera). It will also become a key place for the ongoing training of active workers, who must adapt to the demands of the market.

With a planned investment of €2.4 million, entirely funded by sustainable tourism tax, the project is still in its early stages of implementation. The goal is to establish a qualified workforce in a strategic area for the Balearic economy and sustainable boat tourism.
