What does it consist of?
The Balearic School of Hospitality (EHIB) is undergoing the complete renovation of its central kitchen in the Archiduque Lluís Salvador building in Palma. The project aims to update facilities that have been running since 1994, improve energy efficiency and strengthen practical training at a centre that serves some 250 people a day.

The project
The renovation responds to a need that’s been building up over the years. The EHIB’s kitchens, which are key to the centre’s training activities, had become technically and energetically outdated. The lack of original spare parts, rising maintenance costs and gas and electricity consumption far from today’s standards meant major works were needed.
The project is divided into several phases. The first involves the demolition of outdated structures, from partition walls and false ceilings to old furniture and fixings. This will be followed by the renovation of systems essential to the daily running of the school, such as the electrical system, the gas network, water drainage, ventilation and fire protection equipment.
A major part of the works is the improvement of learning spaces. The new layout includes two classrooms for kitchen practice, one for first-year students with twelve stations and another for second-year students with eight. The bakery and pastry workshop will also be refurbished. The aim is to adapt these spaces to current teaching requirements and to provide a more efficient and safer working environment for students.
The works also include the renovation of cold rooms, equipment and storage facilities, a less visible but core part of the school’s operations. Through this update, the EHIB seeks to uphold quality training that reflects real practice, while reducing consumption and operating costs at a facility central to the Balearic hospitality sector.
