Sa Pobla Revamps Its Vehicle Fleet With Two Electric Vans

The municipality has added zero-emission vehicles to modernise the water service

What does it consist of?

Sa Pobla Town Council has added two electric vans to its fleet of local council vehicles, as part of a local strategy to reduce the environmental impact of its water service. The change was part of the transition to cleaner technology, in line with its Sustainable Energy Action Plan.

The project

Sa Pobla directly manages water supply and sanitation in its municipal district. In recent years, it has been leading a modernisation process in line with EU commitments to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency. One of the key steps has been electrifying part of its vehicle fleet, with two new electric vans to replace diesel vehicles that had been in service for over a decade.

The plan has also seen the installation of a charging point to ensure operational coverage for the new vehicles. As such, the municipality has improved its responsiveness in the urban environment and immediately reduced local CO₂ emissions, together with noise pollution in the streets where this core service operates.

This revamp is part of a wider initiative led by Mallorca’s public water network (Aguas Públicas de Mallorca), in which six other town councils are involved. Each of them has adapted the strategy to their own local circumstances, but they all share the common goal of moving towards more sustainable mobility models in public services.

In Sa Pobla’s case, the initiative aligns with the municipality's Sustainable Energy Action Plan. The move to electric vehicles is not just a technical change, but also a statement of intent towards environmentally responsible management that responds to today’s challenges such as air quality, emission reduction and energy efficiency. The total cost of the plan was €56,886, funded by sustainable tourism tax.
