The project

Palma's intercity transport will take a step towards decarbonisation with the addition of new electric buses. This first phase of acquisition will cover regional services based on the needs identified in a preliminary feasibility study commissioned in 2023.

In addition to these vehicles, the project involves building a canopy equipped with solar panels around the Ecopark. This structure will serve as a recharging point for the new buses and as a benchmark for clean energy infrastructure integrated into the public transport system.

The initiative responds to the desire to move towards a more efficient fleet, with lower climate impact and better adapted to current routes. The preliminary study served to identify routes with the greatest potential for electrification and to estimate the investments required for vehicles, recharging and maintenance.

The total investment is over €1 million, and the new buses are expected to be in operation during 2025. This measure expands on other steps taken by Palma City Council and the Balearic Government to reduce emissions in transport, modernise the service and improve connections between neighbourhoods and municipalities in the metropolitan area.
