New Water Tank to Improve Supply in Santa Eulària

The project expands the capacity of this desalination plant in Ibiza with support from the ITS fund

What does it consist of?

The Santa Eulària des Riu desalination plant in Ibiza has completed the construction of an additional 5,000 m³ tank. The intervention, funded through sustainable tourism tax (ITS), brings storage capacity in line with daily production volume and improves the urban supply service.

The project

The Santa Eulària desalination plant produces up to 15,000 m³ of drinking water per day, but until recently it had a single tank with a capacity to store just two thirds of this volume. This imbalance limited the system’s overall performance and hindered the optimal use of desalinated water.

To address this issue, an additional 5,000 m³ tank has been built to increase total storage capacity and to manage flow more effectively. The new tank has the same the technical characteristics as the original, with base dimensions of 40 x 25 metres, and is intended entirely for municipal supply.

The works have also included the construction of a valve chamber with a chlorination system, a bottom drain and a water recirculation pump, as well as the construction of an inner box to manage overflow. This part is connected to the system’s general drain manifold to prevent water loss in case of overfilling.

With this extension, the mains water supply network in Santa Eulària will significantly increase its capacity and become more durable. The upgrade not only technically adapts the system to the production volume, but also offers greater water security in the long term for residents and for a municipality that receives a high influx of tourists.
