What does it consist of?
Pollença Town Council has upgraded part of its vehicle fleet with electric vehicles for its water service. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of local council vehicles and make progress towards the local energy sustainability strategy.

The project
As part of Mallorca’s public water network (Aguas Públicas de Mallorca), the municipality of Pollença has taken a step towards the energy transition in the area of urban services. The initiative saw the addition of four new electric vehicles (three vans and one passenger car) to replace older units that had conventional combustion engines.
The new vehicles are used for water management tasks, a service with a significant operations in urban areas. As well as improved efficiency and reduced emissions, electrification reduces noise levels in streets and residential areas, one of the most noticeable impacts of conventional vehicles.
The plan has also seen the installation of electric charging points to boost the self-sufficiency and daily operation of the vehicles. This aligns with the goals set out in the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (PAES) adopted by Pollença and other municipalities on the island to tackle climate change locally.
The initiative is part of a broader scheme to modernise the vehicle fleet in seven municipalities across Mallorca. In Pollença’s case, the plan has involved an investment of €125,840, funded entirely by sustainable tourism tax.
