The project

The site planned for the future exhibition centre is located between Son Llàtzer Hospital and Manacor road. This space has the strategic potential to define a new metropolitan infrastructure that would allow large-scale events to be held without overloading the city centre. The project seeks to revive the local economy, reinforce Palma's position as a conference destination and offer a wider cultural and commercial use of the urban space.

The equipment will be designed according to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency standards. A maximum built-up area of 20,000 square metres is foreseen, with a capacity of around 8,000 people. The complex will include modular exhibition halls, conference rooms, food spaces, offices, technical services and outdoor spaces, as well as a large parking area. It will be designed to ensure the flexibility and multifunctional use of the space.

The site will connect directly with the future Palma-Llucmajor train line and other forms of sustainable mobility, such as bicycle lanes and public transport routes. This seeks to ensure access without the need to rely on private vehicles, thus minimising the environmental impact of road traffic in the area. Universal accessibility will also be prioritised throughout the design of the complex.

The planning foresees a preliminary tender process for the drafting of the architectural plan, followed by implementation through different phases. The timetable sets initial tendering from 2025 onwards. The urban planning department stresses that this type of facility is key to reducing seasonality in tourism, creating job opportunities associated with the trade fair and culture industry, and diversifying land use in expanding areas.
