Calvià to reinforce security and awareness for responsible tourism

The municipality allocates over €5.3 million to a comprehensive plan for control, prevention and awareness in tourist areas

What does it consist of?

Increased number of officers, new surveillance cameras, mobile barriers and awareness campaigns. These are some of the measures of the project funded by sustainable tourism tax. The goal: to improve safety, quality and coexistence in Calvià’s main tourist areas, particularly Magaluf.

The project

The plan focuses on the most popular areas, especially Magaluf and its surroundings, where most of the incidents related to nightlife are concentrated. Actions planned include the reinforcement of police with a special deployment of six officers, one sergeant and one deputy inspector each summer, along with the provision of body-worn cameras and the acquisition of a rapid intervention vehicle.

Security will also be reinforced through the expansion of the video surveillance and capacity monitoring system on Magaluf beach, as well as the installation of smart pedestrian crossings and the addition of mobile barriers against vehicle attacks.

The project also includes measures aimed at visitor care and well-being, such as the SATE interpreter service for foreign tourists, the acquisition of defibrillators, and the renovation of the Magaluf Municipal Tourist Information Office.

In the urban environment, decorative and recreational interventions are planned to transform pedestrian areas into safer and more accessible spaces, thus improving the area’s image.

Awareness plays a central role: a campaign targeting both residents and visitors will be launched to promote responsible tourism, and a conference will be held with British travel agencies—the municipality's primary source market—in order to align the destination with sustainable practices.
