Establishing a strong, diverse research ecosystem with international impact. This is the roadmap of the INTRES programme, which seeks to strengthen the role of IdISBa as a hub for health research in the Balearic Islands by recruiting science professionals at different stages of their careers.

The project

Attracting and retaining research talent in healthcare is one of the islands’ greatest challenges. INTRES, a programme backed by the Balearic Government and managed by the IdISBa Foundation (Balearic Islands Health Research Institute), has been created with this goal in mind, and is accepting applications to employ scientific and technical professionals at different stages of their careers.

The initiative comprises four schemes: TECH, JUNIOR, FOLIUM and MANAGEMENT. This range of schemes seeks to recruit both researchers and research support staff. These schemes are governed by European principles of open, transparent and merit-based procurement (OTM-R model), and are partly funded by sustainable tourism tax.

INTRES not only strengthens current lines of research, but also promotes new ones by focusing on the specific health needs of the archipelago. Training in cross-cutting skills such as leadership, communication and entrepreneurship is also part of the plan, providing transferable knowledge that can be applied in clinical practice or industry.

IdISBa is currently the only institution in the Balearic Islands that has the HR Excellence in Research seal, awarded by the European Commission. This seal recognises a working environment geared towards quality and stability, essential to ensuring initiatives such as INTRES achieve sustainable improvements in public health.
