The project

The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) industry has become a strategic pillar for destinations seeking to break away from seasonal tourism. In Ibiza, securing this model involves expanding the capacity of the current Conference Centre, which opened in 2007 in Santa Eulària des Riu. Since then, its activity has been increasing, backed by the work of the Ibiza Convention Bureau, which brings together more than 75 local businesses in the industry.

The second phase, currently in the tendering process, involves the construction of a new multi-purpose space with a capacity for more than 1,000 people, portable exhibition boards, retractable bleacher seating and elevating work platforms. The design foresees multiple uses: from conferences and product launches to stage performances and trade fairs. Technical facilities will also be extended, work and storage areas will be added and a new underground car park will be built.

The work will be carried out over four years, at an estimated total cost of €34 million. The funds requested for the final phases amount to more than €18 million, complementing investments already granted in previous years. According to the plan, the new venue space will be operational between 2026 and 2027, with a clear objective: to boost the competitiveness of Ibiza as a destination in the national and international conference circuit.

Beyond the direct economic benefits, the project seeks to stimulate the local business landscape. It will create skilled jobs, reduce seasonality in tourism and improve the island's year-round connectivity. It will also open up new cultural possibilities for locals and visitors alike by hosting shows and events that currently have no place due to capacity or equipment limitations.
