Ibiza upgrades its exhibition centre with air-conditioning, renewable energy and a new show tent

What does it consist of?

The Ibiza Exhibition Centre is undergoing full modernisation almost three decades it first opened. The planned actions include a new air-conditioned multifunctional show tent, improved energy efficiency and upgraded technical equipment, with the aim of making the space a leading venue for conferences, fairs and cultural events throughout the year.

The project

Opened in 1997, the Ibiza Exhibition Centre was the island’s first site for trade fairs and large events. Over time, the facility has grown in terms of capacity and services, but the Island Council considers it necessary to adapt it to modern cultural, business and tourist demands. This is part of a broader diversification strategy that seeks to offer activities beyond the summer season.

The modernisation plan includes the installation of a 70 metre x 25 metre dismountable show tent, equipped with air-conditioning and advanced insulation, meaning shows and exhibition events can be held in better conditions. This extra space, with capacity for larger performances, will respond to the growing demand for activities in autumn and spring.

Another major upgrade is the increase of electrical power, with a new transformer and generator that will allow more efficient air conditioning equipment to be supplied. There will also be 112 electric blinds to black out the main hall during performances, along with large LED screens, new sound and lighting systems that consume less energy.

The planned works also include modernised bathrooms, the partial replacement of the air-conditioning system and new indoor and outdoor lighting with LED technology. These actions will not only improve the visitor experience, but will also lower the venue’s maintenance costs and the environmental impact.

With these renovations, the Ibiza Exhibition Centre aims to reinforce its reputation as a leading venue in the MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), a market that is gaining prominence in the island’s tourism strategy. According to the Island Council, the possibility of hosting major art fairs, concerts and international conferences during the low season will help to combat seasonality and strengthen the local economy.
