The project

The Rambla Tower is part of the defensive heritage built in Menorca during the British period. Located within the S'Albufera des Grau Natural Park and declared a Cultural Interest Asset (BIC), this fortification retains its original structure better than any other on the island, despite being in a state of semi-ruin. Its value lies not only in its impressive military architecture, but also in the protected landscape that surrounds it.

The aim of the works has been to slow the deterioration of the structure by reinforcing building elements, thus ensuring safety and stability. The approach has been to respect the appearance of the tower as it is today, avoiding reconstruction that would otherwise alter its historical authenticity.

To this end, the original stones have been recovered and repositioned as far as possible, and holes have been filled in with structural mortar compatible with the existing materials. This process has been under the constant supervision of an archaeologist, ensuring any findings or information obtained during the work become part of the monument’s historical documentation.

Through this reinforcement, the Rambla Tower remains a visible testimony to the island’s defensive past and an interpretive resource for the area. Its conservation will allow visitors and residents to learn about and appreciate one of Menorca’s most unique sites, bringing heritage and local identity together in the same place.
